The weirdest thing I've seen in manhattan
Today I saw the craziest thing i've ever seen in my days in manhattan. I saw a guy with a net walking down the street. He then ran and covered up a pack of pigeons on 46th street and then got picked up in a jeep. It was definitely not anyone official, like the pigeon patrol. It was a dude stealing pigeons for I have no clue what reason? Is this even legal? I know we hate pigeons but can you take them from their homes? strange. I shared a storry with my buddy this morning and he said he saw someone on the subway with a big black live spider in a zip lock bag around his neck. I guess the morale of the story is that I said this is the weirest thing, but the bar will be raised, maybee not next week but the following. that's nyc.

The shotty attempt at a Music Review
If you were a huge fan of soul coughing and cried when they broke up, simply go out and buy, download, or steal Mike Doughty's new album, haughty melodic. It has lyrics you swear you could write yourself and then they get repeated over and over, yet it is brilliant. Songs like busting up a starbucks and white lexus simply rock. I still miss soul coughing and this brings back memories from one of my greatest concerts, sc at roseland back in 98. Coincidence that soul coughing had the only song i know written about jeanine (they spelled it janine)

Slip n Slide - Fun for the WHOLE family - DISCLAIMER Pain for grown ups
I've been called superfluous before with my "best ever" cries, but the wham-o slip n slide is one of the greatest inventions ever, even if it is just a tarp with agua. I remember when I had one as a kid the fun I had running as fast as I could until i slid off the 10 foot slip-n-slide into the grass and rocks. On the "standard" model they've added another lane to the slipnslide and a bumper to save you at the end. They also have more "deluxe" models where you can multi-task, slip and slam a basketball or slip and score a soccer goal. Wal-mart and others are making the good old sprinkler look real lame by offering the Banzai falls. Last weekend at Ian's christening, Kevin went all out and got the standard slipnslide. He also decided to try it himself, testing the warning on the box stating if you are old you will basically risk spinal cord injury. Here are some great pics from the event and I can't wait till the next slipnslide event - I think each of the mcgregor clan should try to "one up" each other until someone gets a pool or the super banzai slide.

Survey says if you owned a Dodge Omni you are likely to succeed!
I have been doing an informal survey of people lately and asking them about some of the not so nice cars they and their family have owned. The most popular answer I get amongst the folks i hang with is the DODGE OMNI! now mind you I hang with very few hilton rich kid types. Answers also include Chevy Chevette, Pinto, pacers, Dodge Maverick, vw bugs with flinstone floors, ford escorts, ford tempos and Chevy Caprice Classics without hubcaps. Oh and don't forget my favorite, the 1980's toyota celica that my friend well's drove for 2 years with the heat on in the dead of summer so the engine wouldn't overheat. Then I take a look at the person and how successful they are and frankly all of them have done very well for themselves!I'm talking managers at fortune 500 companies, vice presidents, lawyers, doctors and nurses. The survey also found that you would make an additional hundred K if you saved up for a junk car and then were not allowed to bring it to college, forcing you to sell yourself for a ride on "the board:. little did you know you were building your sales skills.
Jeannine and I have had a total of 4 omni's in our lifetime and we are doing alright. 3 for my family and one for her that took all 6 family members on a summer vacation. 2 powder blue and 1 two tone red and grey fo me. This was my sister's first car. I remember it had no rear defroster, so we had to buy a fan that plugged into the cigarette lighter. Why does growing up having multiple onmi's and other POS cars lead to success? First, you probably won't obsess over cars, which are the silliest investment in the world. Second, if you ever have to pick up a date in a powder blue dodge omni, you better have something else going for you. If you count on just having a car the first time, you will learn real fast that personality matters. Finally, eventhough the omni is great in the snow and reliable, you will dream of bigger and better things. In my town the "cool guys", on their 16th birthday got the toyota truck with a roll bar (upstate nY), american racing wheels and a system. I got the hand me down omni and am truly thankful and proud. What junky car has left a major impression on you and started your path to the promise land?

Best Lobster Movie Ever!
Last night I had the honor of attending a movie screening at Tribeca Cinemas. A friend of a friend, wrote, directed and brought his family and friends to the screen, in The Lobster farm. I was truly blown away, by both this great story and the movie's star, Danny Aiello. Danny answered questions along with the writer/director Kevin Jordan, a future household name, after the screening. Danny took about $14 dollars a day to work on this film and showed up with legit hollywood friends. He truly seemed like a genuine guy who believes in young directors and of course, new york film making. The movie is based on Kevin's life, growing up in sheephead's bay brooklyn and working at the families Lobster Farm. Across the board there were magical performances, including Jane Curtin, Sam Freed, Daniel Sauli and of course bidder #1. Bidder #1 is a natural! I really hope you all get to see this movie at your local theater soon.

Jersey Doesn't Suck - Part 2 "Extreme PR Makeover Needed"
I have been attempting to put together my Jersey manifesto, but time has not been on my side. So i am now going to make it a blog series. I came up with this saying after a need for outside support for jersey. Many think I am from jersey and ask "what exit?". I am actually from upstate NY, near lovely POTOWN. I am leading a grass roots movement of outsiders supporting jersey. jersey sucks is everywhere! Lame-o Jay Leno ranks on the state in monologues, blogs rant about their road trip when they got stuck in traffic in jersey. I am trying to get it to jersey doesn't suck and then the monumental movement to Jersey rocks. For the lifelong jersey resident, i know you get mad that jersey doesn't suck assumes that there is a fair amount of suckiness related to jersey. If you have lived there all your life, you already know it doesn't suck, so chill and i'll send you a t-shirt and help the cause. Just a note, this strange obsession is not just me. My family have been pro-jersey all my life, spending 2+ weeks every year camping in the 25 foot Prowler pulled by a bright yellow former school bus chevy suburban to beachcomber resort in cape may. My sister is coming all the way from Colorado this summer, with friends to hit the jersey shore, eventhough cali is closer.
To start this movement, we really need to understand why some people don't like jersey. People always point to the obvious ones, the smell of the chemical plants, areas directly off the turnpikes, drivers, traffic, the first view when you take nj transit across the river, and of course the old "it's not new york". But i took it a little deeper. Over the past few months I have been simply going to google news and searching "new jersey". Here are a few of the entries I have found and really point to my first recommendation - jersey needs a pr makeover. The first thing they can do is work with google to get new jersey nets off as the top new search.. come on.
1) 80 year old New Jersey Madam arrested! - What? That's sick. Jersey is pro-business, but how come this article made it all the way to the BBC!
2) New Jersey has the purest heroin for the 2nd year in a row! - I read this when I walked by Fox news studios in NYC. Come on this shouldn't hit the ticker. I had to search hard to find that jersey schools are some of the best schools in the nation!
3) Jersey resident guilty of shooting his laser pointer at a plane! Every article associates this guy with jersey. A good pr person could hopefully change jersey resident to "Freaking Moron".
4) Billboards from jersey residents "Welcome to New Jersey: A horrible place to do business." as you go to the Deleware memorial bridge. It has been placed by someone who was rejected for a home depot in jersey due to wetlands. a pr campaign should come to him from the IRS. Jersey is the pro-est of all pro business states. It's overdeveloped to the max and has to draw the line somewhere. However, another win for the jersey haters as they pass through on the turnpike!
Nj makes mistake after mistake in this area, except being pro sopranos. It can't win recently with governor issues. temporary Governor Codey and his wife decided to bring her story of depression forward, however, they brought it forward on the weekend edition of NBC ny4 with an awful report. It was awkward and didn't really get the message across. There had to be a better way and it ended up getting made fun of on the radio and causing yet another bad portrayal of jersey, when Codey challenged the shock jock to put up his dukes like 30's style boxing. get your act together and start promoting some of the awesome things about jersey! things i will speak of in volume 2. keep rocking jersey.. i'll probably be living there soon and will miss your shores this summer as i save for a wedding.. pork rolls rule...
