Christmas In NYC - Heaven and Hell

roadsign.jpgChristmas in nyc is both the best and worse time of year. It's as if the whole city is jacked up on uppers and downers. What's good about nyc is the spirit of the season, the decorations, the shopping, and partying tips the scales. However, with that comes TOURISTS. As a new yorker you really just need to relax and enjoy the good that comes with the season. Those who get aggravated at the tourists and sigh with disgust are morans. I particularly like when tourists on 5th avenue, fresh from getting ripped off, ignore those don't walk signs as they cross the street. What's even funier is when they try to follow real new yorkers as they find a quick opportunity to cross during the don't walk sign! They follow and then run madly after a cabbie honks and speeds up at them. Slow down don't get too excited to get to Rockefeller Center to do a triple sow cow in an overcrowded skating rink. Don't rush to the Olive Garden in times square, it's the same Olive Garden that is in your hometown just more expensive! Pay attention tourists because people get hit all the time. It's a fact and you can ask Jeannine who sees it all too often in the ICU!! Happy Holidays!

Tell me which is worse: the holiday crowds along 5th Avenue in the 40s and 50s or the shopping mobs in SoHo at the intersection of Broadway and Prince St? Either way, you've got slow-moving pedestrian traffic entangled with undercover black market goods hawkers, cops, and the well-dressed lackeys and weekenders. Maybe this is the one time during the year locals can clear their minds and not watch where they are going too. Look at it this way, everyone loves to be in New York City for the pre-Christmas rush. Down at the National Christmas tree and National Menorah across the from Whitehouse lawn this weekend, only a handful of tourists came to see the [not-so-flattering] star-netted tree. At least Rockefeller pipes popular and classical music. All DC has are tunes that try to sell you war bonds.
